Chapter 584 Beastman Scout
Chapter 584 Beastman Scout
"Come on, newbie. Follow me on patrol and learn the rules."
Colin nodded to Lin Tian, signaling him to follow.
The patrol team consisted of six people, including Lin Tian. Besides Fang Ping, there were two warriors, an archer, and a mage. They were all veterans around level 70, their equipment was severely worn but well-maintained, and each person's weapon was placed in the most convenient position.
Fang Ping led his team along the patrol route outside the city wall. The route ran along the base of the city wall, with a watchtower at regular intervals, manned by sentries.
As they walked, Fang Ping explained the patrol rules to Lin Tian one by one—when to change shifts, how to signal in case of enemy activity, and the retreat route. Lin Tian had a good memory and remembered everything after hearing it only once.
After patrolling most of the circle, Fang Ping stopped in front of the last watchtower. Just as he was about to say something, he suddenly stopped.
He turned his head sharply, his small eyes fixed on the bushes to the north.
There's some noise.
His voice was low, and his right hand was already gripping the hilt of the knife.
The other veterans almost simultaneously assumed combat stances—the warriors drew their shields and stood at the forefront, the archers nocked their arrows, and the mages' staffs glowed faintly.
Lin Tian's perception caught the target faster than Fang Ping's. Behind the bushes, five life forms were moving rapidly toward a weak point in the runes on the east side of the city wall.
"Five," Lin Tian said.
Fang Ping turned sharply to look at him, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes. "You can sense it so clearly?"
Lin Tian didn't answer; his gaze was already locked onto the five targets. The next moment, his figure vanished from the spot.
Stars leap.
A streak of light shot out from the patrol team's formation, stopped abruptly in mid-air, and Lin Tian appeared directly above the bushes.
Below, five gray-green figures were moving swiftly along the ground. They were a head shorter than humans, with thick limbs, coarse manes covering their backs, and mouths full of protruding fangs. Each orc carried a bundle of javelins on his back and a rough iron axe hanging at his waist.
Orc scouts.
The scouts also spotted the uninvited guests in the sky. The orc at the front let out a hoarse roar, and all five of them simultaneously reached for the javelins behind them.
Lin Tian did not give them a chance.
He raised his right hand, and a blinding white light shone from the tip of his index finger.
Stellar rays.
An extremely condensed beam of light burst forth from his fingertips, leaving a straight trail in the air before precisely piercing the heads of the first two orcs. The beam entered the first orc's forehead, exited from the back of his head, passed through the second orc's temple, and finally exploded into a charred crater in the ground.
The two orcs didn't even have time to scream before their bodies froze on the spot, then they fell straight down. The damage numbers floating above their heads were ridiculously high, and their health bars instantly dropped to zero.
Sold out instantly.
Fang Ping arrived just in time to witness this scene. He had already drawn his twin swords, ready to rush forward to provide support, but he stopped after taking only two steps, his mouth slightly agape, the swords almost slipping from his hands.
The remaining three orc scouts were terrified by the tragic state of their companion. One of them let out a sharp howl, and the three of them fled in different directions at the same time—this was the standard response for scouts when encountering a powerful enemy: scattering and fleeing meant at least one of them could survive.
Lin Tian did not pursue.
Because the rest of the patrol had already blocked the retreat routes in three directions. Two warriors each blocked one of the orcs on the left and right, while Fang Ping personally intercepted the one in the middle.
The battle ended quickly. Fang Ping's twin blades slashed cleanly and swiftly into the neck of the middle orc. The two on either side were also dealt with by the combined efforts of the warriors and archers.
Fang Ping sheathed his twin swords, squatted down next to the corpse of an orc scout, dipped his finger in some blood from the ground, and smelled it.
"A scout from the Blackrock Tribe." He stood up, turned to look at Lin Tian, his eyes completely different from before. "What skill did you use just now?"
"Astral rays".
"Star Ray." Fang Ping repeated the name, as if trying to memorize it. "One skill killed two level 72 scouts. You newbie... you've got something."
The rest of the patrol gathered around. The archer couldn't help but exclaim, "Wow, that damage is insane! All of us combined couldn't withstand a single hit from your skill!"
Lin Tian didn't reply. He glanced at the corpse on the ground, then turned and walked towards the city wall.
Fang Ping followed behind him, reporting the situation as they walked: "A squad of five orc scouts was spotted outside the eastern city wall; they have all been killed. Recruit Lin Tian also killed two of them independently."
There was a few seconds of silence on the other end of the line, then Colin's voice came through: "Understood."
The patrol dragged the five orc corpses back to the city wall and handed them over to the logistics department. Fang Ping patted Lin Tian on the shoulder and said he had to go submit the patrol report, telling him to go back to the barracks to rest first.
Lin Tian didn't rest. He climbed back up the city wall, stood by the crenellations, and looked at the orc camp in the distance.
Under the hazy sky, smoke was still rising from the campsite. Several tall figures could be vaguely seen moving between the tents, and the trails of flying dragons circling in the air.
This is completely different from a level 2 main city.
This place is different. Here, the enemies think, cooperate, and wait for their chance. The battles here aren't about killing monsters; they're about waging war.
In the distance, a deep horn sound came from the direction of the orc camp. The sound was muffled and long, echoing through the canyon, crashing against one's eardrums wave after wave.
The soldiers on the city wall stopped what they were doing at the same time, and all their eyes turned to the north.
Fang Ping had just returned after submitting his report when he heard the bugle call, and his expression changed instantly.
"It's the orcs' rallying cry." He quickly walked to Lin Tian's side and lowered his voice. "They're gathering their forces; they're about to attack."
Lin Tian looked at the campsite in the distance that was beginning to stir, and a slight smile appeared on his lips.
coming.
After the bugle call ended, the atmosphere on the city wall suddenly became tense.
Fang Ping drew his twin swords from his waist, the blades gleaming coldly in the sunlight. "Patrol team, to the city wall! Quickly!"
Without a word, several veterans ran towards the city wall. The archer grabbed his bow, the mage gripped his staff, and two warriors followed Fang Ping on either side. They moved quickly, but their faces showed no panic, only a habitual tension.
Lin Tian followed at the back of the group, observing the reactions of the others on the city wall as he walked.
The sentries on the tower had begun using flag signals, which were transmitted from the east section to the west section and then to the middle section.
Beside the ballista, the gunners were dragging bolts out of the ammunition boxes. The bolts were as thick as an arm, with iron arrowheads that were heavy and gleamed coldly.
