Chapter 240: Reborn without memory
Chapter 240: Reborn without memory
Two pairs of eyes gazed into her soul the moment she opened her eyes.
Theo felt like a newborn for a second, opening her eyes for the first time and adjusting to the sudden feeling of barely being able to feel, and now feeling so much it took her breath away.
A pair of blue eyes and dark ones stared back at her. The way they looked at her made her feel like she was standing on cloud nine, and no other longing look could beat this.
Her lips parted slightly, and something between relief and confusion crossed her eyes as she asked them, "Who...are you?!"
Zeke blinked
Zevon’s eyes narrowed.
Theo simply stared.
Before any of them could say anything, a monstrous roar tore from behind them and everyone’s attention was drawn back to the elephant in the forest.
Alcaeus.
A very angry one.
He was standing at Theo, fury coursing through his veins, knowing that years of everything he’s tried to achieve had just gone down the drain.
How did she get her soul back?
Why can’t he feel the presence of his mate anymore?
No!!
Theo looked at Alcaeus, and her breath caught with fear. She pushed herself closer to both men, shielding herself away from the fire in Alcaeus’s eyes.
In that moment, she allowed herself to take a complete look around the forest. She’d never seen anything like it before. The sight was fear-inspiring, and she could hardly believe it.
Werewolves.
Demons.
They were...real.
Zevon glanced back at her, and she snapped her terrified eyes at him. She was back to them, but her soul did not return with their memories. She was looking around like it was her first time seeing all this.
"Oh my God," She breathed, torn on whether to move away from both men or cling to them like her life depended on it.
They seemed powerful, reeking of this insane supernatural energy that was knocking the breath out of her. The only thing that kept her close to them was the way they looked at her - the way her returned soul clung to them without any reason.
Zeke turned back to her and offered her a smile, his limbs shaking beside him. He wanted to hug her tight and whisper into her ear. He wanted to tell him how badly he had missed her. He wanted to do so much more.
But he could see the confusion and fear in her eyes.
He didn’t want to startle her even further.
"Don’t worry, Hellcat," He said instead, reaching out to cup her face without thinking. There was only so long he could hold himself back, his fingers softly tracing her skin.
"We’ll keep you safe, Venom," Zevon added, a soft smile on his face.
The names sounded so familiar. Were they the people the lady in white was telling her about? The stubborn ones that wouldn’t stop fighting for her?!
"What... are you?" She asked.
"Demon-wolves," They replied in unison.
"And...who am I to you?"
Zeke and Zevon gave each other a quick glance, and then replied, "You’re our everything,"
Theo’s breath stuttered at their answer.
The words hit somewhere deep inside her, somewhere older than memory. Her chest tightened, not with fear this time, but with something dangerously close to belonging.
She didn’t understand it. She didn’t understand them.
The ground trembled violently before she could process anything further as Alcaeus roared again.
"You," He thundered, staring straight at Theo as if the two men shielding her didn’t exist, "What did you do?"
Theo shrank back instinctively, "I—I don’t even know what’s happening," She whispered.
Zevon stepped forward slightly, placing himself more firmly between her and the Alpha, "You lost," He said calmly.
Alcaeus’s lip curled, "I do not lose. I have never lost,"
Behind him, the veil pulsed like a living wound in the sky. It throbbed, split open wider, and more demons poured through.
Liam’s voice cut across the chaos somewhere to the left, still barking orders and taking on more demons.
Leonard and Vincent were still standing, bloodied but unyielding as they fought alongside the remaining wolves and soldiers. Steel clashed against claws, and gunfire mixed with howls.
Farther back, Aurelius was locked in combat with the massive horned beast Alcaeus had summoned earlier. The monster’s horns carved trenches into the earth every time it charged. Celeste moved like light itself, striking at its legs with brutal precision, while Harrison drew its attention, absorbing blows no human should survive.
The creature was close to death.
Theo’s fingers curled into Zeke’s shirt, "They’re real," she breathed again, eyes darting between wolves shifting mid-air and demons dissolving into ash, "All of this is real."
Zeke’s jaw tightened, "Yes."
Another tremor shook the clearing as Alcaeus took a step forward.
Zevon’s eyes darkened instantly, "You will not touch her," he said as a promise.
Theo felt the air change around him and the blue-eyed man. Their already dangerous auras thickened even more, and as dangerous as it felt, it only made her feel warm and fuzzy, as though it was ripping everything apart but hugging her instead.
"Theo!" A familiar voice cut through the chaos.
Theo’s head snapped toward the sound, and saw a woman with glowing blonde hair and eyes coming towards her.
Ava sprinted toward them, dodging between battling figures with terrifying determination. Blood streaked her sleeve, but it wasn’t slowing her down.
When she reached them, she didn’t hesitate and grabbed Theo’s arm, "You’re coming with me."
Theo blinked at her. "Do I know you?"
Ava’s expression flickered, but she swallowed whatever emotion rose, "Yes," she said firmly. "And I am not letting you die again."
Again.
The word made something twist in Theo’s chest.
Alcaeus snarled at the sight of Ava trying to drag Theo further away from him, "Get away from her!" he roared, lunging forward.
But Zevon intercepted him instantly.
The impact when they collided split the ground beneath them and Zeke moved at the same time, shifting partially with his claws flashing as he joined the fight.
"Take her!" he shouted to Ava without looking back.
Theo’s heart pounded violently.
She didn’t want to leave.
She didn’t understand why.
But something inside her screamed that staying between those two men felt safe.
Ava only tugged harder, "Theo!" she cried.
Another demon burst from the veil behind them, shrieking as it lunged.
Ava reacted faster than Theo could think, pulling a blade from her belt and driving it straight through the creature’s skull. It disintegrated into black smoke at their feet.
"You can panic later," Ava snapped breathlessly, "Right now you move."
Theo stumbled as Ava dragged her backwards through the forest.
Behind them, Zevon and Zeke fought like forces of nature.
Theo glanced back for a second, and Zevon caught her eye for half a second mid-battle. Even in the middle of chaos, he looked at her like she was something sacred.
The look stole her breath.
Then Ava yanked her behind a fallen tree, "Stay low and watch out for the vines,"
Theo crouched instinctively as another demon swooped overhead.
Her mind was spinning. She was still trying to take in all this. Why the hell was she waking up in the middle of what seemed like the most dangerous place in the world?!
Ava knelt in front of her, gripping her shoulders, "Listen to me carefully," she said. "Your soul came back. That means the demon is gone."
Theo’s pulse jumped, "She’s not coming back?" Theo asked softly.
Ava’s gaze softened for a fraction of a second, "No."
Something inside Theo exhaled.
Relief.
Not because she hated the demon.
But because she felt the peace that had replaced her.
A demon suddenly lunged from the side, and Ava shot up and tackled it away before it could reach Theo. They rolled across the forest floor with Ava’s blade flashing again and again until the creature dissolved.
Theo stared.
This was insanity.
And yet... her body didn’t feel as fragile as her mind did.
Energy pulsed faintly under her skin.
It was alive. She could feel it.
*That’s me you’re feeling,* Seraphina said.
Theo froze again. Something just spoke in her head. And she could feel a heavy pressure around her heart, like it was being squeezed softly.
*Welcome back, Theo,* The Squeeze increased, *How I wish I could physically hug you right now,* The voice sounded like she was crying.
Theo felt her heart melt, *You’re...?*
*Seraphina*
*I’m guessing we know each other too*
*On a very close level, yes* Sera replied.
A thunderous crash split the clearing with demons still pouring through the tear.
Ava grabbed Theo’s hand again, "We need to get you farther from the veil."
"What about those two? Will they be ok?" Theo asked, still looking straight at Zeke and Zevon fighting Alcaeus.
"They will and they will also be relieved to know that you’re safe! You don’t remember much and we need to keep you safe! Your safety is my priority, now come with me and stay close!"
