Chapter 305: Can You Go to Rivenland with Us?
Chapter 305: Can You Go to Rivenland with Us?
"What if they really are your biological parents? What do you plan to do? Should you bring them home? Perhaps living together would make it easier to build a connection."
Of course, the most important reason is that once the troublesome couple is brought home, Maxim Sinclair can arrange for someone to keep an eye on them.
"There’s no need for that right now. I’m still waiting for the results. What to do after the results are out... I haven’t decided yet."
Summer Lowell shook her head, refusing his suggestion. In any case, she had no intention of bringing them home.
Her relationship with Maxim was already so tangled, and if she brought her biological parents over... how awkward would that be!
Summer hesitantly searched for an excuse, but Maxim saw right through her concerns and smiled enigmatically, "If you’re willing, you can bring them in. If not, you can tell the butler to find a place for your parents to settle, and the butler can also arrange for someone to look after them. It’s all up to you, as long as you want it."
After saying this, Maxim didn’t stay long. He chatted casually with Summer and then quickly turned and left.
Shortly after he left, Summer stared blankly at the door, muttering to herself, "He’s acting so strange now, what’s going on in his mind? I just can’t figure it out."
At that moment, Maxim didn’t return to his room or the study but instead went straight to the attic.
Inside a room separately set up in the attic, a group of people was busy working. Section Chief Grant was the first to notice his arrival and stood up to greet him, "President Sinclair, what brings you here?"
Maxim sat down on a chair, flipping through the records Section Chief Grant had entered on the computer, "What has Justin Huxley been up to lately? Is he keeping quiet?"
"No, he’s still frequently meeting with Mr. and Mrs. Collins. They are now completely under his control."
"Two fools, taking a thief for a friend," Maxim laughed scornfully, then turned to ask Section Chief Grant, "What do you think... if I kindly told them that it was all Justin Huxley’s scheme that landed their son in prison, what do you think their reaction would be?"
Section Chief Grant paused for a moment before speaking, "They might hate the young lady more, use her, or even pressure her. They might employ some illegal methods to send her to Justin Huxley’s side. They’re basically heartless parents."
"Haha, just as I guessed," Maxim nodded slightly in agreement, "So should I tell them?"
"You better not, for the sake of the young lady’s safety. If that happens, things will get out of control. After all, we don’t really know how those foolish parents might act out in even more mind-boggling ways."
Maxim thought about it and agreed with her logic, "Then we’ll stay put for now. Keep a close eye on Justin Huxley, you personally oversee it, and prioritize Summer’s safety above everything else."
"Understood, President Sinclair."
Section Chief Grant replied with a serious expression.
Vivian Sullivan knew Summer was eager to get the results of the identification and personally went to the hospital that day, handing the DNA test over to a trusted colleague.
It wasn’t until the next morning that Summer finally received the DNA test results.
When Vivian entered, Summer was surprised and stood up, "How is it?"
"The results are out," Vivian walked over with a complicated expression, handing the documents in her hand to Summer, "The results show that the couple is indeed your biological parents."
Summer hesitated as she took the document, looking at it over and over with a complicated mood, and then asked Vivian, "I don’t know why, but after seeing the results, I’m not as happy as I imagined."
"You’ve been on this journey for so long that your heart has grown numb. It’s normal not to feel overjoyed. But overall, this is still good news. If you’re free tonight, let me treat you to a drink and celebrate."
Summer looked at the joyful Vivian and shook her head, exhausted, "I just want to sleep well tonight and sort out my thoughts. Now that the result is out, I need to think about my next steps."
"What do you plan to do? The results are clear—they’re your biological parents. Will you go with them to Rivenland? Or stay in Stellarion?"
Vivian looked at Summer with unexplainable sympathy, "They’ve been absent all these years. If you feel troubled, consider them just like any other relatives. Don’t put yourself through hardship."
"I haven’t decided yet; let’s talk about it in a few days."
That evening, Summer watched Maxim emerge from the bathroom and sat up, wrapping a blanket around herself.
Maxim, who was drying his hair, saw her and was a bit surprised, "Not asleep yet? I thought you were already asleep."
"The DNA results are out."
Summer stared blankly ahead, and Maxim almost thought she was talking in her sleep.
"What were the results?"
"Vivian personally had someone conduct the test, and the results show they are my biological parents. I’ve waited so long and finally, it’s here."
Tears welled up in Summer’s eyes, "I’ve really waited so, so long..."
Maxim let out a heavy sigh, threw the towel aside, and got into bed to embrace Summer, "I know, I know how you feel."
...
Summer looked at Mrs. Collins, who was hugging her and sobbing, and finally pushed her away after a long time, "Everyone is watching. Let’s sit down and talk."
After a long, awkward silence, Mrs. Collins couldn’t hold back and started sharing her plans, "Summer, now that the results are out, you should come back to Rivenland with us. You have your real family there, and your brother too. Let’s go back and start fresh, living life as a real family together."
It was the scene she had always dreamed of, but in reality, when faced with it, Summer didn’t feel particularly happy. On the contrary, she even wanted to refuse Mrs. Collins’s proposal.
"My job, my friends are all in Stellarion. I don’t know anyone in Rivenland; I might not be able to adapt there."
Summer shook her head, rejecting the idea.
Seeing this, Mrs. Collins turned to look at Mr. Collins, who thought for a moment and said, "Sorry, we weren’t considerate enough. You’ve grown up and have your own social circle; we can’t dictate your life. Plus, we’ve been absent from your life for so long, and we’re in no place to interfere."
His tone was a bit solemn as he said this.
Summer shook her head, indicating that she didn’t mean it that way, but the strange feeling inside her grew stronger. Something seemed out of place, but thinking carefully, she couldn’t quite figure it out.
"We’re not trying to make things difficult for you. How about this—could you accompany us to Rivenland? Meet the relatives. They’re all delighted to hear that we’ve found you and are clamoring for you to visit. Could you spare some time to go back with us? And your brother, he really wants to meet you."
